Dragon Quest Builders 2 is AWESOME. Like an AMAZING sequel to the first game. I just finished the main story last night and am exploring the rest of the game content before I settle down and build to my heart’s content. It takes the first game and expands upon it in fantastic ways. Even the story is better!
Hmm…a bit like the real first 2 Dragon Quest games…a coincidence? Probably not, given the single main character in the first game, like Erdrick in #1 and the trio of main town characters in #2 (green, red and blue)…not to mention the bad guys in either game are the same…
Makes you excited for the next game! Because #3 was my favorite in the series!
Anyways, here are a few things in the game that drove me crazy and had trouble figuring out even with the trusty internet to help. In no particular order.
- Angler’s Isle: Filling the aquarium was driving me crazy because it just wouldn’t count no matter how many times I tried! Then it occurred to me that he wanted pure water. Not seawater. Turned out to be a pain because then I had to leave the island and then come back without seawater. Also, it’s good thing I didn’t try to get rid of my angelfish because I should have known he wanted me to put them in there. Duh.
- Super Strong Monsters: The best time to kill these guys on each of the story islands is right after you beat the story when you get the people you’re going to bring with you. Instead of going back to the ship, go kill the monsters. It makes it much much easier when you have that many people to help.
- General building: I could NOT get the game to recognize certain rooms. It would not recognize the throne room in the Isle of Awakening in the Cerulean Steppes. I tried many different things and turns out, if the game thinks a room is too big, it won’t recognize it. For the throne room there, build the walls only in the area with the pink castle tiles. In general, don’t build too big of a room. Then, a room is recognized only on the area level with the door and only 2 blocks high (since 2 block height is the minimum requirements for a room). If certain items are not being recognized, try moving it to the bottom 2 levels.
- Captain Brownbeard: If you insist on fixing or making a landing/dock at the Isle of Awakening, DO NOT knock the block out from under Brownbeard. You won’t be able to replace the block until one part at the end of the game. It drove me crazy, but thank goodness I had the presence of mind at the end of the game when he was cowering on the mountain, to run towards my dock and place the block. Otherwise he just chills out in the hole the whole game. You can’t place a block under him to boost him up like the other people (as far as I’ve tried at least).
- Malhalla: If you want to steal the gate and entrance to the very first hideout, do it, because otherwise the big arm destroys it and you lose your chance. Conversely, don’t bother breaking down the temple for piece-stealing when you reach Hellen, because you have to build it up so it’s worthless.
- Moonbrooke: The blizzard part. I kept waiting for them to give me a powie yowie coat recipe, but they never did so I kept assuming I’d missed something. No. You just use the Mod Rod and turn into a Powie Yowie instead of constantly getting hurt. I had finished the whole story there before I realized this. Sigh.
