Making wood chips

I got a bag of mesquite wood for smok­ing but they’re large chunks. Cur­rent­ly, I am work­ing with wood chips so I got a hatch­et to chop them up. The bonus is that I have nev­er used one before and I love blad­ed weapons. Nor have I ever chopped wood.

Chan­nel­ing my inner man! Very fun stuff and a good way to train/test aim.

Ini­tial­ly, I came up with this idea, but quick­ly real­ized that it was nei­ther a good idea nor effec­tive.
Moved to sta­ble ground, found scrap wood, and put on gloves

Blam!
End result

This. Was. Fun. The more I did it, the bet­ter con­trol and bet­ter aim I got. My left hand is by far infe­ri­or to my right hand.

Def­i­nite­ly need a bet­ter cut­ting block. Now I know why peo­ple use stumps. Being old makes stand­ing up hard­er every day.
