Looking back on this post from 3 years later, I don’t know what happened to the text? Or if I finished posting? I don’t know what happened, but no matter what, this is a terrible picture.
Also, as a dental professional, you can use Polident’s denture cleaner on your nightguards and retainers, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that it will stain them a yellowish color. It does work, though it is not recommended. My mom has been using Efferdent on her nightguard once a week for almost 30 years and it is pristine, just discolored.
There is another option which is Polident Pro Guard and Retainer meant to clean retainers and nightguards while keeping them a clear color. I’ve used it off an on and I like it.

Hi, retired RDH here. I have the type of night guard that is double layered in the anterior area. I also was told to use soap and water to brush it clean. Mine is so gross! I mean, seriously, if I get some Polident between the two layers and can’t seem to get it out/off, I’m not going to die from it, right? I’m going to try it. Thanks. I need a new one anyway!
Have you maybe tried getting an ultrasonic bath from Amazon or similar store? I have yet to actually acquire one, but it’s on my wish list. Sometjing like that should maybe help! Also, I have not tried, but eventually I will test out the Polident Pro Guard if you want to give it a whirl! Those products include a paste, a foam, and a tablet. Best of luck!
